Abstract

A single donation of whole blood can and should benefit many patients. Most blood-drawing facilities can prepare red cells, platelets, clotting factor VIII, and fresh plasma from whole blood. After a patient's needs have been accurately diagnosed, he should receive the specific transfusion product indicated.
