Abstract
The bacterial infection of the mouth which is the most common and at the same time relatively uncommon is acute necrotizing gingivitis. The clinical picture is diagnostic. Syphilis may be manifested orally by the chancre of primary disease, the maculopapular eruption and mucous patch of the secondary stage, or the atrophic glossitis and gumma of tertiary syphilis. An unusual manifestation of tertiary syphilis is mandibular atrophy.
