Abstract

Most tongue cancers are squamous cell tumors. They often develop quite insidiously, and the initial complaint may be surprisingly trivial. The cause of tongue cancer is unknown, but it appears to be due to a number of factors acting together on a conditioned mucous membrane substrate. Presently, most lingual cancers are being treated by surgical excision occasionally combined with irradiation.
