An Adolescent Inpatient Program

Guidelines and Ethics

, M.D.
Pages 181-185 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

In the inpatient treatment center for distressed adolescents described here, the therapeutic program is divided into varying subcultures, for which both adolescents and staff members determine the code of ethics. The adolescents find it easier to see the wisdom and necessity of guidelines that they help to create and to change. The program subcultures are living-in assistance centers, not hospital wards or detention facilities. When the adolescent leaves the program, he is offered aftercare if it is indicated.
