Abstract

In addition to the usual problems of diabetes, the diabetic between the ages of 16 and 22 has special problems related to his stage of development, the transitional stage between adolescence and adulthood. For successful treatment, the physician must understand the emotional problems involved and develop an interest in these patients as individuals as well as diabetics. The young patient is better able to accept diabetes when he learns that he can control it.
