Abstract

Complications of noncardiac surgery in cardiac patients are better managed and often prevented by monitoring certain vital functions. Some of the complications discussed here are electrolyte imbalance, hypovolemia, hypervolemia, hypotension, respiratory depression, fever, and thrombophlebitis and pulmonary embolism. The complications causing surgical mortality are the same for cardiac and noncardiac patients, but are more prevalent and more poorly tolerated in the cardiac patient.
