Abstract

One consideration in choosing drug therapy for a patient in hypertensive crisis is how rapid a decrease in blood pressure is desired. Among agents that are given intravenously for immediate hypotensive effect, diazoxide has definite advantages. As soon as possible, a transition from parenteral to oral therapy should be made.
