Abstract

When an electrocardiogram is not available, careful physical examination with observation of the jugular venous and carotid pulse forms and auscultation of the precordium allows correct diagnosis of most arrhythmias. To best use the available chemical and electric treatments for arrhythmias, the physician must be able to anticipate and identify those that are life-threatening. Details of therapy in specific emergencies are discussed here.
