Abstract

As a group, patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms are poor candidates for the only treatment offering a chance to survive the catastrophe. Generally they are old and have significant vascular disease along with other serious medical problems. For those who survive operation, acute renal failure poses the greatest threat to life. The outlook is especially dim if preoperative shock is severe.
