Abstract

If bacteriuria in pregnancy is considered to be no more than an incidental or interesting finding, significant and irreversible renal disease may result. Selection of optimal therapy depends on consideration of the site of infection within the urinary tract, the infecting organism(s), and the chronicity of infection. I n too many cases the treatment given leads to prolonged illness or infection with resistant organisms.
