Seizures and Fever

, M.D.
Pages 107-111 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Although febrile seizures are common in children less than five years old, the precise physiologic and biochemical bases for such episodes are unknown. Of the factors implicated, the height of body temperature, fever per se, age and cerebral maturation, and syncope show positive correlation. Work-up and therapy following a single seizure and factors influencing prognosis are discussed.
