Abstract

Unilateral paralysis of the diaphragm in the newborn can cause serious respiratory difficulties. Roentgenographic examination shows the involved diaphragm to be unusually high, and fluoroscopy shows paradoxical motion. The condition may be self-limited and conservative management may suffice; however, continuing severe respiratory distress calls for surgical intervention.
