Treatment of Angina Pectoris

Abstract

For the purpose of treatment, angina pectoris due to coronary atherosclerosis can be divided into two types: stable and preinfarction. Therapy for stable angina includes avoidance of precipitating factors, regular exercise, nitroglycerin for acute attacks, isosorbide dinitrate and propranolol, abstinence from smoking, appropriate diet, and treatment of associated disorders. Preinfarction angina is a more serious condition, requiring hospitalization and, in some cases, surgical treatment.
