Abstract
In acute bacterial meningitis, antibiotic therapy should be started even before infecting organisms are identified. Specific therapy, based on antimicrobial sensitivities, should then be continued until cerebrospinal fluid shows normal glucose and near normal protein concentrations and no viable organisms. Systematic management, based on a daily checklist of necessary information, will help to prevent complications or to detect them as early as possible.
