Abstract
Conventional tests detect only 50 to 76 percent of active cases of systemic lupus erythematosus. This low rate is due to false positive reactions and difficulty in identifying lupus erythematosus cells. Emphasis is now centered on proving the antibody nature of LE cells and developing sensitive and specific immunologic tests. Laboratory use has shown the procedure reported here to be both accurate and reproducible.
