Surgical Treatment of Acute Bacterial Parotitis

Abstract

The incidence of parotitis, once thought to be decreasing, is again on the upswing, particularly among postoperative patients who are highly susceptible to infection by “hospital strains” of Staphylococcus aureus. This historical review of the literature and commentary on modern management points out parallels between past and present treatment.
