Abstract

Comprehensive and compassionate treatment of the candidate for abortion includes medical, legal and sociopsychologic screening and counseling with both the patient and involved persons. The physician should inform the patient of the possible alternatives to abortion and of the community services available for each. If the patient decides to terminate the pregnancy, appropriate referral and follow-up are essential.
