Fever of Unknown Origin

Analysis of 34 Patients

Pages 182-188 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

The efforts to find the cause of prolonged, unexplained fever must rely heavily on statistical probabilities. By reassessing these trying cases from time to time, we can spot any shifts among the diseases most commonly responsible. The results of this survey lend support to the theory that many of the cases that remain undiagnosed represent self-limiting infections. The value, or lack thereof, of certain laboratory tests is also indicated.
