Ovarian Tumors in Childhood and Adolescence

, M.D.
Pages 230-235 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Clinically significant ovarian tumors in children and adolescents are not common, but many are vicious and do not respond well to treatment. Determining whether conservative or radical treatment is best for these young patients is difficult because of the heterogeneity of the tumors. To aid in this decision, the author presents a tumor classification and discusses various forms of treatment. A review of experience suggests that surgery has been far more radical than necessary in these patients.
