Abstract

The problem-oriented system of keeping medical records in long-term illness has many advantages. The system prevents neglect of minor problems; lessens ambiguity of management goals; promotes clearer communication, continuity of care, professional behavior of the health team, and objectivity of the physician and patient; helps the physician as a team leader; simplifies audit; and facilitates assessment of resident physicians.
