Prevention of Chronic Lung Disease

, M.D.
Pages 93-99 | Published online: 18 Apr 2016

Abstract

Primary prevention of chronic lung disease stresses avoidance of potential irritants, the most important of which are found in cigarettes. Persons who may be unusually susceptible need special protection. For example, certain occupations pose inordinate risks for cigarette smokers.

Secondary and tertiary preventive measures aim at preventing disability and at rehabilitating persons whose pulmonary function is already impaired.
