Abstract
Critics of the annual physical examination call it a ritual and a fiasco. Supporters maintain that it is indispensable to good health care. Caught in the middle is the conscientious practicing physician. The basic tool in the practice of preventive medicine is not the yearly checkup but an efficient medical record. The checkup is only the tool for collecting data.
