Abstract

Hernias are common surgical problems and diagnosis usually is not difficult. Many patients have the mistaken idea that operation is the only solution for hernia. In most cases it is easy to decide whether surgical repair is urgent or can be delayed for elective surgery. However, in a few instances, the best advice is to avoid operation. Some points that contribute to good judgment in treating hernia are presented.
