Fluorides in Neoplastic Disease

, M.D.
Pages 166-172 | Published online: 16 May 2016

Abstract

If patients have malignant osteolytic bone lesions, they may benefit from taking fluorides by mouth. Fluorides relieve pain, and in about 40 percent of patients, increase the x-ray density of osteolytic lesions. Fluorides tend to strengthen and harden the bones, thereby decreasing the possibility of fractures, compression and deformity.
