Drug Abuse: A Symptom of Adolescent Unrest

Abstract

Contrary to what most adults believe, adolescents who use marijuana are not always troubled youngsters. Well over half of the young people who try marijuana do so out of curiosity and because they want to have some fun. Of the young people who have tried drugs, 95 percent have done no more harm to themselves than previous generations have done with socially approved forms of adolescent experimentation. Awareness of these facts permits a realistic approach to use of drugs by adolescents.
