Abstract

Glaucoma accounts for 10 to 20 percent of blindness in the United States, but this figure can be substantially reduced through early detection and proper treatment. Tonometric testing for the disorder should be included in routine physical examinations. Effective treatment depends on accurate diagnosis. Some forms of glaucoma are best treated surgically, while others respond to conservative medical therapy.
