Abstract

The patient who complains of pain and other symptoms without evidence of organic disease may be a nuisance, but his pain is real and he needs help. The general physician can treat the simpler types of psychosomatic and psychologic illness with the use of relatively uncomplicated hypnotherapy. Patients respond very well to this treatment. The inestimable advantage of hypnosis in psychologic illness lies in the field of short-term therapy.
