Abstract

Data are becoming available regarding the impact of sexual activity on the damaged heart, and physicians should use this information to counsel both patient and spouse. Without advice, the patient must rely on his own knowledge and opinions, which often results in an unnecessary reduction in sexual activity. Generally speaking, the patient can return to his premorbid level of sexual activity when he is ready to resume such activities as walking briskly or climbing stairs.
