Abstract

A patient hospitalized with symptoms indicating a psychiatric problem became increasingly stuporous. He awoke immediately on receiving intravenous glucose. Laboratory studies showed blood sugar levels to be relatively low. Laparotomy did not reveal a hepatic or pancreatic tumor; however, further studies indicated that the patient had an islet cell tumor that may have been missed because it was exceptionally small.
