The Low-Carbohydrate Diet in the Treatment of Obesity

, M.D.
Pages 151-154 | Published online: 16 May 2016

Abstract

Obese patients are not likely to follow a diet that is unpalatable and unsatisfying. With the low-carbohydrate diet, patients limit carbohydrate to about 50 or 60 gm a day and eat as much protein and fat as they want. This plan gives palatability, satisfaction of hunger, good nutrition, and a deficit of 1000 cal a day or more. Moreover, the patient does not need to know caloric values of foods.
