Abstract

Most obese children actually have a calorie intake in line with or lower than that of their more active peers. Thus, exercise is the cornerstone of the regimen detailed here. Every effort must be made to increase physical activity so that the child will “spend” more calories. When dietary regulation also is needed, the calorie deficit should be only moderate, to avoid interference with growth or other harmful effects.
