Abstract
Vasectomy appears to be an ideal method of voluntary sterilization. It is effective, is not difficult to perform, carries a low morbidity, and is for all practical purposes without risk. It is illegal in only one state, and only three of the other 49 states have laws covering vasectomy for voluntary sterilization. In these states statutory requirements must be met in performing the procedure. With these exceptions, fear of legal consequences is groundless if proper consent is obtained.
