Abstract

A properly positioned head mirror is a necessary tool for an ear, nose and throat examination. After the light source and the head mirror have been focused, their positions should remain unchanged; the patient should be moved to accommodate the necessary maneuvers. Although the organs may be examined in any order, the mouth and larynx probably should be left until last, for if the patient begins to gag and becomes apprehensive, he may not cooperate for the rest of the examination.
