Abstract

Differential diagnosis of dizziness is important to determine if the problem is in the ear or in the central nervous system or other organ systems. Vertigo can be caused by any disorder that unilaterally reduces vestibular function, such as tumor, trauma or infection, but the most common cause is Meniere's disease. Drug therapy usually provides symptomatic relief, but in cases of incapacitating Meniere's disease, surgery may be necessary.
