Abstract
Renal biopsy has been used for about 20 years to study patients with renal disease. It is now a very useful clinical tool, often playing an important role in diagnosis, prognosis and management. This is particularly true in patients with acute glomerulonephritis, the nephrotic syndrome, asymptomatic proteinuria, or acute renal failure. Maximum information can be obtained from the biopsy only when the tissue is handled in a special way and the histologic changes are related to the clinical events by a team of expert clinician and pathologist.
