Abstract

The relative contributions to nephrolithiasis of disorders such as renal tubular acidosis, cystinuria, altered calcium and uric acid metabolism, and urinary tract obstruction and infection are largely defined. Thus, many of the factors associated with stone formation are understood. The formation of stones is potentially preventable, and effective therapy for these disorders is available.
