Abstract

Amniocentesis has already proved useful in detecting fetal hemolytic disease, chromosomal abnormalities, and familial metabolic defects. Studies indicate that its value will increase with further research. Despite the low incidence of complications, diagnostic amniocentesis should not be used without proper indication.
