Treatment of Diaper Dermatitis

Abstract

Simple diaper rash generally will respond promptly if a little extra effort is made to protect the baby from primary irritants. This includes using single diapers and no rubber or plastic pants and changing the diaper often. Protective cream with or without a corticosteroid also helps. When eruptions in this area are due to candidal or bacterial infection (primary or secondary), antibiotics also are necessary. Viral infections are less common.
