Abstract

With proper treatment, one can expect cure rates on the order of 95 percent for basal cell and squamous carcinomas of the skin of the head and neck. To a large extent, tumor size and location determine which of the several methods of treatment will be best. Methods in use include curettage and electrodesiccation, surgical excision, x-ray therapy, cryosurgery, and Mohs' chemosurgery. With the last technic, surgical excision is guided by microscopic study.
