Chronic Active Liver Disease: Classification and Treatment

, M.D. & , M.D.
Pages 88-94 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Chronic active liver disease may be sudden in onset and difficult to distinguish from acute hepatitis and other liver disorders. Typical clinical, biochemical and histologic features aid in differential diagnosis. Treatment with prednisone or a combination of prednisone and azathioprine significantly increases survival and often brings about remission of the disease.
