Coagulation Abnormalities in Liver Disease

Pages 147-152 | Published online: 06 Jul 2016

Abstract

Incidence of coagulation abnormalities is high in patients with liver disease, but clinical hemorrhage is not common. When abnormal bleeding does occur, coagulation defects—although present—are not necessarily responsible. This discussion of extensive investigations of coagulation defects and disordered hemostasis in liver disease emphasizes the therapeutic implications of present knowledge.
