Recurrent Urinary Infection

Abstract

Most recurrences of urinary infection are not relapses but new infections with different organisms. The perineum, urethra and bladder are likely sources. Urine culture usually is not needed for a first bout of bacteriuria but is essential in chronic, relapsing or recurrent infection. Adequate follow-up is a key factor in successful management of any urinary tract infection.
