Abstract
The disease entities caused by Candida are many and varied. Among the persons affected might be an infant born with cutaneous candidiasis perhaps acquired in utero from the mother's vagina, a professional dishwasher or a housewife with infection between the fingers, a nail-biter with paronychia, and a man with inflammation of the bearded area. Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis and widespread systemic candidiasis often involving the lung have been associated with immunodeficiency syndromes. A hyperkeratotic variant is known as candidal granuloma
