Paranoid Disorders in the Elderly

Abstract

Paranoid symptomatology in the elderly is of three types: paranoid hallucinosis, schizophreniform illness, and schizophrenia. These reactions may be manifested in acute brain syndrome, depressive illness, chronic brain syndrome with schizophrenie symptomatology, and senile schizophrenia or late paraphrenia. ln most cases the paranoid symptoms respond well to the major tranquilizers.
