Abstract

The general physician sometimes needs to interpret blood gas measurements with which he has limited familiarity. A simple table shows the relationship of the physiologic mechanisms or therapy, or both, leading to any combination of PaCO2 and PaO2. A second table indicates the effect of disease or complicating factors on PaCO2 and blood pH.
