Abstract

Nonnutritional anemias in adolescents have causes ranging from inherited abnormalities of hemoglobin to the illicit use of drugs. The hemolytic anemia produced by some drugs in persons with a deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase points up the importance of recognizing the unusual as well as the more common causes of anemia.
