Abstract
Proctosigmoidoscopy is the cornerstone of diagnosis of colorectal cancer; most tumors are within reach of the sigmoidoscope and well-demarcated from normal colonic mucosa. Barium enema studies are also very useful. The only curative treatment is radical surgical excision; overall five-year survival rates, however, remain very poor.
