Abstract
With improvements in microbiological techniques in clinical diagnostic laboratories, many new bacterial names are appearing on culture reports. Dr. Finegold reviews the antimicrobial therapy of anaerobic infections, comparing the relative merits of agents currently approved for use in the United States? delineates clinical situations in which one agent would be preferred over another? and indicates certain agents which may shortly come into wider use. The information from Dr. Finegold's laboratory will be of excellent use in guiding therapy, particularly where laboratories do not have the facilities to perform adequate antimicrobial sensitivity tests against anaerobes.—HCN
