Abstract
Dr. Sanford has chosen an approach to the problem of urinary tract infection that most of us can appreciate. He describes a hypothetical patient and poses the questions that must be answered in managing patients with urinary tract symptoms and infection. He points out that we really do not know how to determine which patients will subsequently have chronic pyelonephritis. Until we do, Dr. Sanford's suggested guidelines will be helpful in managing the patient with acute or chronic urinary tract infection.—HCN
