Care of the family who has lost a newborn

, MD
Pages 67-70 | Published online: 07 Jul 2016

Abstract

To provide effective counseling after the death of a neonate, the physician must be aware of the many ways the mother, father, and siblings may react, which range from self-blame to fear, and must also be in touch with his or her own feelings about death. With help, the family can resolve their grief and begin planning for another child when appropriate.
